Day 172 - 2010

Worldcup2010-Logo Portugal : Korea  7:0
WOW
unbelievable, Portugal made the defense look like they stood still

Chile : Switzerland 1:0
Did not watch this one

Spain : Honduras 2:0
Pretty good game, Spain stayed with it.

What a weekend. Games on Saturday and Sunday, Father’s Day celebrations – busy all around.

Spend the night with the kids. Cleanup in the morning. Outing to Starbucks with the dogs.

The pool in the afternoon with Chloe. She was determined to get her swimmers permit so she can jump off the diving board.

Abby to DST for a workout and then to Pitcher practice.

BTW

France??

What the @#$%^&* are they thinking? The French team went on strike for the training session after one of the players got expelled from the team. So typical. Don’t they see past their ego? This is not about the player, it is about the team, the country they represent. What egotistical attitudes. It is one thing to criticize the coach, but at the end it is the players who are on the field – make it happen.

Team France endures meltdown at World Cup

BY MICHELLE KAUFMAN

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- The French team is in flames -- and in dire need of a therapist. Things have gotten so bad that the team refused to practice Sunday.

The mess began when Nicolas Anelka cursed at coach Raymond Domenech during halftime of Thursday's 2-0 loss to Mexico. The coach has been criticized by players and the media after the team failed to score in its first two matches. Anelka refused to apologize for his outburst, so he was sent home.

The team protested by boycotting Sunday's practice. Players showed up at the field near Cape Town, said hello to 200 fans, then turned around, got back on the bus and drew the curtains. Team captain Patrice Evra quarreled with fitness coach Robert Duverne, who threw down his stopwatch in anger. Team director Jean-Louis Valentin, telling reporters he was “disgusted” by the team's behavior, resigned on the spot.

“I am ashamed. I am leaving immediately for Paris,”' he said.  “What has happened is a scandal for the federation, for the French team and for the whole country. They do not want to train. It is unacceptable.”

The players put out a statement that read: “All the players in the French squad without exception wish to affirm their opposition to the decision taken by the French Football Federation (FFF) to exclude Nicolas Anelka. We regret the incident at half-time of the France v. Mexico match, but we regret even more the divulging of an event which was only the squad's business and was part and parcel of the life of a top-level team. The FFF did not at any point try to protect the squad.”

Perhaps FIFA should send the French home and let the Irish come play the last Group A game, against South Africa. Ireland was eliminated by France in World Cup qualifying on an admitted hand ball by French star Thierry Henry.

Surely, Irish fans are laughing at the French soap opera.
