A scorcher day is announced temperatures are up to 103 degrees by mid day.
Mini Golf this morning at the Association Center.
Short setup, nine holes. Max won with 20, I had 22 and Chloe followed with 24. Max shot two hole in one, Chloe had three near hole in one. Too hot to do anything else at the moment.

Lansdowne Concert tonight – Jack Diamond
After a rather boring and hot day I went to see Jack Diamond play live. It only took me several month to get there. The band was really good. Played songs from way back when to today’s popular rock. Great energy, good selection of songs.

Max’s second day of skateboarding lessons. Tuesday they learned how to stand on in correctly and push off to move forward, walk with it, and some more gizmo things.
The girls seem to get a better feel for the game as a team. They lost the first game (???) by one run due to several errors in the last inning. However, they won the second game and showed pretty good team work. It figures, one more doubleheader and a tournament to go in the season.

traffic LightsAlright, I wrote about it earlier this week, here it is again: TRAFFIC LIGHTS! First, too many of them in the other direction as well. No wonder that there is a huge backup in the morning trying to get out of the suburbs. I’m not sure what the computations are for the timing of the lights, but they are not working in rush hour in the morning as well as in the evening. It is ridiculous that you get the green light and, after waiting forever for the first car to go, you drive less than a mile and the light is red, unless there is an opening and you ramp up to 63 miles per hour to catch the next green light. Repeat that five times before you get out of Ashburn. If it is designed to slow traffic down – wonderful job. Gas efficiency – zero. Everybody knows that starting a car and getting it to move takes the most fuel, by the time you drive the five miles you wasted gas and polluted a lot, do this ten times a week times who knows how many cars daily. |
Wednesday, last overnight tonight.
Finally added the other side of the shutters in the bathroom. Still fiddling with the color of the shadows.
Programming for most of the day, some errands to catch up.

nothing todayNo complaints? |
Tuesday – Practice tonight
Max’s first skateboard lesson.
Here it is
and yet they have to park there anyway. It is always the same people who call the tow truck, get used to it. Now it is more of a game, the tow truck comes, hooks up the first car and waits for the owner to come running. The driver collects $25 and lets the car off the hook, the rest of the drivers scramble to get the car out of the way.
Anyway, here is some furniture I discovered in a warehouse advertising bankruptcy sales
A lot of beautiful furniture but they come with a price tag. Some of them read $38,000 – this is a sale!
Installed a new facet in the kitchen.
and helped Chloe put her stickers on the walls of her room

price tagThere is this store in Sterling advertising “Bankruptcy Sales”, don’t know if it is for the store or otherwise. They sell furniture and carpets. Out of curiosity, I checked it out. Looks really great, some of it more than others. The prices are staggering ranging from $1,500 for a chair to $38,000 for a table. Most of the pieces are either made in France or Italy (so the owner says), but there are also knockoffs from China. At the end you can not tell at first glance. So by the time you put together a dinning room you are out about $70,000 or more. |
Monday – Overnight with the kids.
Huge Thunderstorms last night, I thought the plants would fly away. Jack Diamond commented on the movies Despicable Me came in second, Sorcerers Apprentice came in third (not as well received). Dinner for Schmucks, yet another stupid movie, most likely will make a lot of money thanks to the Schmucks who will see it.
Lansdowne performance this Friday with Jack Diamond, looking forward to it after I tried all year to get to one of his performances.
Bowling today – fun time with Abby, Max and Chloe
Rushing to DST afterward for Abby’s workout. Beautiful rainbow
Pitching practice afterward. Big Bang Theory on the TV.

Traffic lightsOnce I lived in a little town called Herndon. Some thirty odd years ago it was way out next to nowhere, two lane road through the historic downtown district. Over the years it boomed and is now a thriving city. There is one catch – traffic lights. Over a two mile stretch there are 12 or so traffic lights. Now enter Ashburn - same scenario – suburbs with only one road out of the town (if you don’t take the toll road and pony up $4.25 one way or enter Route 7 as a parking lot), peppered with lights. Now how hard is it, after all the traffic counters I have seen, to adjust the lights so the main traffic will make it through the next light? Towards the east side of town there is a parkway – literally you park there - there are four lights over a 2.6 mile stretch. No way that you will hit every light in a go mode, unless you are speeding, speed limit is 45 mph. The side streets get priority. Why can those engineers not figure out how long it will take for twenty or so cars to get from one light to another and leave it open? It takes more gas and pollutes more if you constantly stop and go. |
| Louis Oosthuizen wins with 16 under, seven stroke lead … Great performance |
I can’t believe I let it slip again. One week of not recording what is going on. Good thing I keep track of it on calendar and pictures.
Still watching the British Open. Tiger Woods with another disappointing round. This guy from South Africa has the lead now since Friday and most likely will hang on to it, odds to win 200 to 1 (should have bought a ticket).
Bought plants today, finally. It looks really great, just as I pictured it.
Here is what they look like from the outside:
I don’t know what behooved me, but I went out and bought curtains. They do blend with the color of the walls.
The flowers look really great during the night with the sky as a background and the light on the balcony.

Off to the Special Olympics in Purcellville. Abby had that idea last week to do something with the team for a good cause. Dave, the coach, turned up the special Olympics. It was great, the girls got into it.
Dinner at Sam’s house later today. Turned out alright.

prince who?OK, here is my opinion: WHAT AN IDIOT, quoted as a forward thinking artist he just stepped back twenty years. That from a man who can not make up his mind about his name . Get with the program. |
Uwe’s funeral is today at 2PM, don’t think I go.
Watched the British Open ALL DAY, WTH??? Later around 7PM went to Lansdowne Resort to listen to the live band. It was a Latino Band, of course the audience was mostly Latinos. Got hit on by a lady from Leisure World …

windRidiculous. Wind suspended the British Open for 66 minutes. Later it still was dominating the course. Young hopeful shot the worst second round after opening it with a 63 - 80 … |
The British Open starts today. 20 years ago I watched it in Florida, forced on my back with an injury.
The van had a great mileage on today 101010
Max and Chloe and I had a great time at the pool today. Diving, swimming and playing ball… got water up my nose. It would not go away …
Game tonight, I hope they are showing up. Funny one, a duck was on the field and would not move. It made it almost to home base. Went swimming with the Max and Chloe. Still working on the softball iPhone app.
Long two games tonight, lost the first one but won the second due to time expired in which case the score reverts back to last completed inning.

Haircut today, as usual June did a great job. Some stuff I saw in Men’s Health
Bowling today, trying the new Kingpins bowling alley in Leesburg near Wegmans.
Some ideas for an apps game
guess where the quarter is. Three cups shuffled and you have to guess what cup the quarter is under.
Max and Chloe and I played “horse” basketball in the court. Abby played man hunt later that night after practice.
